Readly expands its German portfolio of regional newspapers

Readly, the European market leader for digital magazines and newspapers expands its newspaper offering with more regional content. All 20 local editions of BILD, the WELT AM SONNTAG editions for Hamburg, Bavaria and North-Rhine-Westphalia as well as WELT Hamburg and all 16 regional editions of Sächsische Zeitung from TAG24 NEWS Deutschland have been added to the platform. Broadening the newspaper portfolio continues to be a strategic focus for Readly in the DACH region.

Readly subscribers now have access to seven national German newspapers and 52 regional titles, including local editions. A number of daily newspapers have been available on Readly since 2013, but a strategic focus to increase the portfolio began in 2021. Over 37 national newspapers and 220 regional titles and local editions are available on the platform today, across all markets.

- One of our focus areas is to provide our users with a wide range of newspapers, which is well-balanced and inclusive of local and regional news. Our data shows that there is a growing appetite for news content on the platform and newspapers such as B.Z, WELT, Rheinische Post, and Sächsische Zeitung are popular with readers. Since the addition of newspapers, the average reading time per month has gone up. The data indicates that this has a positive effect on magazine reading in coinciding categories such as News & Politics and Business & Finance where readership is also increasing, explains Jan-Sebastian Blender, Head of Content at Readly.

Users can find the local editions in the newspaper category on Readly, or by searching for the titles. For example, if users search for BILD, the individual regional editions of the publication for Baden-Wuerttemberg, Dresden, Munich, Westphalia etc. are displayed directly on the results page. As well as helping users find content quickly, this also generates valuable data on user behaviour.

- With our analytics tools, publishers can gain better insights into the audience and their reading behaviour of regional titles. Perhaps their issue in Bavaria, for example, primarily reaches an older readership, while in Brandenburg it tends to reach a younger target group. Publishers can now use this knowledge to adapt and deliver their offer in an even more tailored and targeted way, says Jan-Sebastian Blender

In addition, the circulation can be assigned to individual regions at the German Audit Bureau of Circulation, Informationsgemeinschaft zur Feststellung der Verbreitung von Werbeträgern (IVW).

Starting today, the new regional titles, as well as the addition of the cultural-political weekly newspaper from Austria "Die Furche", is available on Readly alongside 6,300 magazines as part of the digital "all-you-can-read" subscription.
